Water heaters fail in two quite different ways depending on the fuel, and sorting out which is most of what happens here before a call is placed. HeaterRelay is operated by NXTA Flow, repairs nothing, sells nothing, and its temperature figure is CPSC’s rather than its own.

What HeaterRelay does
HeaterRelay connects homeowners with independent contractors who repair and replace water heaters. We carry out no work, sell no equipment and hold no stock. There is no van with our name on it.
How the money works
The contractors in our network pay us when we route them a call. Homeowners are never charged anything, and we do not set or see the price you are quoted.
Where the fuel figures come from
The fuel mix on every town page is Census table B25040. The lifespan and energy figures are DOE. The scald figures are CPSC. Each is named on the page where it is used, with a link, so you can check it rather than take our word.
Credentials
Contractors are required to hold whatever credential their state or municipality demands. We do not vouch for anyone; each state page sets out who issues the license there and where to look it up.
Know the fuel and the symptom? That is most of the call.Gas and electric heaters fail in almost entirely different ways, so saying which you have gets you to the right person faster. We route the call and never charge you for it. Water heaters are what we write about; the number goes further.
