Answer first

HeaterRelay routes calls and publishes information. It repairs nothing, takes no part in any agreement you make with a contractor, and the temperature it quotes is CPSC’s recommendation rather than advice for your household.

HeaterRelay is a referral service, not a contractor. We connect homeowners with independent contractors. Contractors are required to hold whatever credential their state or municipality demands. Every state page sets out who licenses plumbers there and where to check, so you can confirm before work begins. We carry out no work, we sell no equipment, we do not set prices, and we never charge homeowners anything — the contractors in our network pay us when we route them a call.

Who you are actually contracting with

HeaterRelay puts you on the telephone with an independent business and then stops. Everything agreed after that — what is replaced, for how much, with what warranty — is between you and them.

We are not a party to that agreement, we do not set or see prices, and we neither supervise the work nor guarantee it. A water heater replacement is a contract with a contractor, not with us.

What the pages here can and cannot tell you

The fuel mix on a town page is a Census estimate for a postal area. It says what that place mostly burns; it does not say what your heater burns, and we tell you how to look at yours instead.

The service life range and the efficiency material come from DOE, and the temperature guidance from CPSC. Both are reproduced as published and both can be revised. None of it is an inspection of your appliance or a substitute for somebody looking at it.

Safety

Nothing here is an instruction to work on a gas appliance or on live electrical equipment. If you smell gas, leave and call your gas utility from outside.
